Invasion

I never used to like watching anything Sci-Fi. Never would've thought that I'd be a sucker for robots, outerspace, or aliens for that matter but look at me now! I am strangely attracted to Spock and sometimes I'll randomly make those noises that Transformers make while, uh, transforming. And especially after seeing District 9, now I'm seriously fascinated and totally into movies like these. Am I the only who CRIED in that movie? Gosh.

Matthew Williamson for H&M

I feel like I'm the very last one to blog about this collaboration, but it's not my fault Calgary always seems to be slightly delayed when it comes to keeping up with fashion. The Matthew Williamson for H&M collection hit the sales floor just today - and thankfully I was able to pop by just before work. I ended up being a couple minutes late actually, all because I wanted needed to get my hands on something; what made it worse was the fact that they couldn't hold anything from the collection so I was incredibly rushed. Hopefully once I get back from Van, I can actually take some time to try on some of the other pieces (if there are any left by then). Although I actually find myself quite confident that there will be, since shoppers here in Calgary compared to New York or any other of the openings are way more nonchalant, or dare I say clueless; dozens of girls walked by the collection not even knowing what was going on! Shame shame. But more for me. Also a little disappointed we didn't get a lot of the anticipated pieces seen in pictures that surfaced the internet prior to the actual release (like this Silk Mix Electric Blue Suit!), but otherwise quite satisfied with what I ended up getting:

Sooo killer. I'm especially in love with the first two, perhaps possibly because they look like x-rays.

GGGB Loves fcswdt

Watch out Kid Robot, Crooks & Castles, Johnny Cupcakes... there's a new guy in town. Introducing: fcswdt. I'm sure I'm not the only one when I say that it's a breath of fresh air to see the development of an apparel and lifestyle brand that is locally-based right out of our hometown, Calgary. Established just this year in time to hit S/S09, already I can see the potential of this company turning into much, much more than just a t-shirt business. "We aim to bring forth a number of projects from the array of subcultures: artists, musicians, athletes and alluring individuals we see and meet on a daily basis." Plus, not only is buddy Addison one out of the five guys behind the project, but on their fresh Official Website (just launched yesterday), a familiar face from my years of high school, Stace, is modeling the Men's S/S09 collection. When asked when I could get my hands on some, their reply? "The tees will not be available till about next week... we still have some minor details to be added to some of them! We are very anxious to release to the public, yet don't want to rush without filling the small details to provide our customers with high quality threads! Thanks for your support Amanda!" Seriously, these guys are dope.

Show your love,

do you fcswdt?

The Marquis & Camus Collections

GGGB's top picks from the Modern Rebel collection ($225-$385 US).

M&C. Established Fall 2006, despite only being a couple years old, Marquis & Camus has already made a name for themselves in the jewelry industry. Their modern and edgy pieces are loved by many, having been spotted on everyone from celebrities to the familiar fashion forward femmes of NYC. The best part about them? Each piece is truly one of a kind; antiquated treasures of the past (which are carefully handpicked from estate sales, auctions and flea markets) are used and combined with more modern materials like leather, sterling silver, ETC. "Modern Rebel"? So me. Check out their other collections too, though (linked @ bottom).

Smoke

Introducing: Elias Tahan Photography. Seriously, do yourself a favor and visit his portfolio; the rest of his projects are absolutely breathtaking. So raw and real. I would post them all on GGGB, but like I said, rather you do yourself myself a favor and just visit his website (linked @ bottom), haha.

Elizabeth and James Spring 2009 Lookbook

The Olsen twins have been an inspiration to many girls ever since they could walk and talk. Shortly after their peak (and downfall, haha) in the entertainment industry, they began to become renown for something other than acting on television or in movies: for their street style. FINALLY, seeking to narrow the gap between designer and contemporary clothing, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen act as muses and co-designers on this new fashion label. Again it is inspired by the mix of uptown and downtown, masculine and feminine, and casual and dressy; the collection is unique in the mixture of androgynous menswear inspired blazers and shirts with delicate mini-dresses, feminine detailing, sequins and unusual fabrics. Their jewelry is pretty tough, too. Introducing: Elizabeth and James, and my personal favorites of the collection creatively put together just for you. =)

GGGB Photo Album #1: Vancouver, BC

Twice a year, Aritzia holds what is called The GSM: General Sales/Staff Meeting (I'm not exactly sure if the S stands for Sales or Staff but either way, it acknowledges both). However do not be deceived by the name, because there really isn't anything general about it, and I really wouldn't classify it as a meeting either. The nighttime event consists of food & drinks, sick music (DJ's), people taking photos, meeting people from other stores, an awards/recognition portion (Miss Congeniality, Outstanding Store, Style Muse, etc.), and to top it all off: a live fashion show to sneak peek the upcoming seasons merchandise.

The Vancouver and Alberta stores attend together, while the Toronto locations stay in the east and theirs is held seperately. Working in District 2 (AB) has its perks because we get to be flown out for the event, having all expenses paid for; meaning the flights, transportation and hotel accomodations. Therefore it only makes sense for the company to only choose a select few (usually around 10 SA's and 2 MGR's) to send out. Work hard, and you will be rewarded! Usually managers alternate: meaning if you attend the Fall/Winter, you usually skip the Spring/Summer - but this year I was chosen to be given the opportunity to attend both. Introducing: The Aritzia GSM S/S 2009:

Photos of the runway show are too blurry to post, but the new merch is out in stores within the next week, so check it out for yourself! (http://www.aritzia.com)
